In-person doctoral seminars (Vienna)

Dates: 10–12 March 2026
Location: Alma Mater Europaea University. Kölblgasse 8, 1030 Vienna, Austria
Format: In-person only (no streaming)

Participation requirements (for PhD students in Vienna Location)

  • The Vienna seminars (10–12 March 2026) are mandatory for all doctoral students to complete 1st-year study requirements.

  • ECTS are awarded to students who actively participate in the in-person doctoral seminars.

  • If you cannot attend in March 2026, you may participate in a similar in-person event in March 2027 to earn these ECTS.

  • The March 2027 location will be decided in May 2026 and will be either:

    • Europe (Austria or Slovenia), or

    • United States (New York City or Washington, DC).

  • Each doctoral student is expected to attend at least two in-person doctoral meetings during the program (1st & 2nd year, 1st & 3rd year or exceptionally 2nd & 3rd).

Optional conference (Maribor)

Costs & arrangements

  • Students cover their own travel, accommodation, and meals.

  • Each participant is responsible for arranging:

    • travel to Vienna,

    • accommodation in Vienna,

    • and (if joining the optional Maribor part) the Vienna → Maribor transfer and accomodation in Maribor (if needed)

Getting to Vienna

  • Vienna International Airport (VIE) – main airport for Vienna.
  • Bratislava Airport (BTS) – common alternative (often cheaper flights; easy bus connections to Vienna).

Getting from the airport to the city

  • From Vienna Airport (VIE) to the city

You have several fast, frequent options:

Uber or taxi

      • You can take an uber or taxi froom the airport to your desired destination in the city.
      • 30-45€

Train to city center (Wien Mitte/Landstraße)

      • CAT (City Airport Train): fastest, non-stop ~16 min from the airport to Wien Mitte.

        • You can either buy the ticket in person, or buy it in advance through the CAT website or WienMobil app (android, iOS)
        • ~15€
      • S-Bahn S7: cheapest, every 30 min from the airport, stops at Wien Mitte/Landstraße (about ~20–25 min).

        • You can either buy the ticket in person, or buy it in advance through the ÖBB website or the ÖBB app (android, iOS)
        • ~5.40€

Train to main station (Wien Hauptbahnhof (Hbf))

      • ÖBB Railjet / Intercity (IC): non-stop ~15 min from the airport to Wien Hbf, typically every 30 min.

        • You can either buy the ticket in person, or buy it in advance through the ÖBB website or the ÖBB app (android, iOS)
        • ~5.40€

Bus to central Vienna

      • Vienna Airport Bus (Postbus) connects the airport with Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz (city center) and also with major hubs including Wien Hbf (and Westbahnhof). Travel time is ~25 min.

        • You can either buy the ticket in person, or buy it in advance through the website or WienMobil app (android, iOS)

  • From Bratislava Airport (BTS) to Vienna:
    • International buses like Flixbus connect the airport to Vienna: ~1h 40 min
      • You can either buy the ticket from the bus driver, or buy it in advance through the Flixbus website or Flixbus app (android, iOS)
      • The bus stops are normally Wien Erdberg (Busterminal VIB) or Wien Hbf
