Call for Postdoctoral Positions
Alma Mater Research Center is excited to announce open positions for postdoctoral researchers to conduct individual research across the European Union, including Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, Austria, and the Czech Republic. We invite talented and ambitious researchers to join our vibrant community and advance their research careers with us.
Fields of Research
We welcome applications in a wide range of fields. Your postdoc research project proposal may be in any discipline or field where you can conduct independent research without extensive infrastructure, including but not limited to:
– Social Sciences (including Law, Economics, Political Science)
– Humanities
– Health Sciences, Medicine, Physiotherapy
– Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI)
– Media and Communication
– Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM)

Eligibility Criteria
– PhD: Applicants must have obtained their PhD degree between 2018 and the end of 2024.
– Research Independence: The research must be feasible independently without extensive infrastructure, such as specialized labs.
– EU Citizenship or Residency: Desired but not mandatory (you may obtain an EU visa).
– Publications: at a minimum, one scholarly/academic article in journals ranked in Scopus or SSCI/SCI and two citations.
Position Details
– Salary: Annual gross salary ranges between €40,000 and €70,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
– Start Date: Early 2025, with the exact date contingent on the completion of the selection process by the funding agency.
– Employment: Successful candidates will be employed full-time by AMRC and will be legally employed in the country where the funding agency will fund your project (Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, Austria, or the Czech Republic).
– Location: You will be employed in one of the EU member states (Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, Austria, or the Czech Republic) and are expected to be based there, while enabled to carry out extensive periods (up to 60% of the time) from other locations remotely. You may work in an office or remotely from home. While we plan your office in the capital city, we may agree to a location in another town within the country/EU.
– Duration: 2 to 4 years, depending on the decision by the funding agency. You are expected to report twice a year on the progress of your project and complete the project in line with your proposal and the contract.
– Additional Responsibilities: The position may include teaching or administrative opportunities and tasks up to 20% of the time, which may be compensated additionally.
– Job Titles: Your job title may be Junior Researcher, Senior Researcher, Postdoc, Assistant Professor, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Postdoctoral Researcher, Research Fellow, Research Scientist, Research Assistant, Visiting Scholar, Teaching Fellow, Research Associate, or Lead Researcher, depending on the call, contract, and country which will fund your research project.
Application Process
To send an initial Pre-Application, please email research@almamater.at with the subject ‘Researcher Position Pre-Application’ and include the following two documents:
1. A detailed CV highlighting your academic achievements, research experience, and publications.
2. A one-page Project Summary of your proposed research project, outlining the research question, objectives, methodology, and potential impact. Your research project is a one-person project that will be managed and carried out by one researcher in 2 to 4 years. 3-year proposals have the highest chance of being accepted.
Submission Deadline
Pre-Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and you will receive a response within one week of submission regarding the approval to proceed with a full application. In the second stage, you are expected to submit a full project proposal within 30 days. With our support, you and AMRC will then apply for funding with the EU or relevant funding agencies. From the time of application to a funding agency to being selected and obtaining the first salary, it usually takes 6 to 9 months.
We approve about one third of the Pre-Applications, about 80% of full applications are selected and submitted to funding agencies, and about 40% of these are selected by agencies and funded.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
– Quality and originality of the proposed research
– Feasibility and methodological soundness
– Candidate’s track record and potential for significant contributions to their field
